What an endodontist does
Endodontists are root canal specialists focused on saving natural teeth.
An endodontist is a dental specialist with advanced training in diagnosing tooth pain, treating infection inside the tooth, managing complex anatomy, and performing microsurgical care when a tooth can still be saved.
At Bixby Endodontics, patients in Long Beach and nearby communities can get a focused diagnosis before deciding between root canal treatment, retreatment, surgery, monitoring, or extraction.

A specialist evaluation can review:
- Lingering hot or cold sensitivity
- Severe toothache or biting pain
- Swelling around a tooth or gum
- Cracked, broken, or fractured teeth
- Prior root canal pain or infection
- Dental trauma or darkened teeth
- Abscess, pressure, or drainage
- Second opinions before extraction

Advanced diagnosis and technology
Modern endodontic tools help clarify difficult tooth pain.
Technology does not replace clinical judgment. It gives the endodontist better information when symptoms, imaging, previous dental work, or cracks make the next step harder to determine.
Microscope-Guided Care
Magnification helps endodontists see fine anatomy, cracks, calcified canals, and details that matter in complex tooth-saving care.
CBCT 3D Imaging
Three-dimensional imaging can clarify root anatomy, hidden infection, prior treatment, and surgical planning when a case needs more detail.
Specialist Diagnosis
Endodontic diagnosis connects symptoms, imaging, bite testing, restorability, and tooth prognosis before treatment begins.
Endodontic services
Root canals, retreatments, apicoectomies, cracked teeth, and abscess care.
